A secret collaboration...

On a sunny afternoon at a restaurant in Southern California, two friends sat across from each other, wondering if amp design had reached its peak. That question set them on a quest to imagine a new class of amplifier.

The two friends were none other than legendary guitarist Joe Walsh and master audio engineer Brian Thompson. They had only one goal: create the best amplifier ever made, no matter the cost.

Zero-compromise design.

The amplifier design was divided into focused sections. Brian Thompson worked with Tube-Tech’s John Petersen on the preamp and optical compressor/EQ, then collaborated with Ted Weber to develop a high-impedance 15-inch speaker matched specifically to the amplifier. Ted spent months refining the speaker design, overcoming electrical challenges posed by its high impedance. This setup required unusually high voltages to deliver 60 watts RMS into the voice coil, pushing design limits and necessitating a special NASA-grade glue for insulation. After countless tuning sessions with Walsh, the amp was perfected.

Pure magic.

20 years later, we're finally releasing the GC-1 to the public. It's an amp that defies the impossible. The few who have played it say it's like a spiritual experience, but you'll have to find out for yourself.

A new class of amplifier.

  • The GC-1 Amplifier elevates your tone with a fully analog design, preserving signal integrity through advanced voltage control and premium tube technology. With tailored 3-band dynamic EQ and optical compression, an extensive frequency range, and a powerful output stage featuring 3 KT88 tubes in parallel delivering unmatched clarity and warmth to a custom high impedance 15-inch speaker — the GC-1 captures every detail with precision.

    • Fully analog design
    • Pure signal preservation with lossless voltage stepping
    • Extremely low noise pre-amplifier
    • 3-band dynamic EQ and optical compression with individual threshold and gain controls
    • 20 Hz to 30 kHz output frequency range
    • Single-ended 3-tube power amplifier delivering 60W RMS
    • Proprietary 70 Ohm 15-inch loudspeaker

SIGNAL PATH

Inspired engineering.

The GC-1 doesn't just amplify sound; it elevates your tone to a whole new level of musicality. Here's how.

  • Ultra-low noise.

One of the primary goals that informed our amplifier design was to eliminate noise throughout the signal path.

To achieve this, the GC-1 has some unique features:

    • DC regulated voltage on the tube filaments, as opposed to the traditional AC.
    • The starved voltage pre-amplifier improves impedance-match to the input.
    • The output stage features regulated high voltage to the tube screens, decreasing distortion.
